Pullbox Kickstarter Spotlight on Steppers – A neo-noir graphic novel that digs into the public domain for inspiration, all in the name of civic action

What if Che Guevara was alive today, to see $7 t-shirts with his face on it?

His life and untimely demise have led to a legendary status as icon for leftist movements driven by class struggle over material gain. So, when you see a T-shirt with his face on it, one could assume this person is compassionate to that vision of the man.

To the producer of that T-shirt, this person is a customer.

This idea came to me with the latest round of additions to the public domain. Most notably, Steamboat Willie and Mickey Mouse are no longer exclusive agents with the house of mouse. Despite an army of lawyers and congressional amendments extending ownership rights, they couldn’t hold onto it forever.

The flood of projects involving Mickey announced ranged from fun homage to gruesome horror. Mostly horror, really. Something about the cultural icon’s management encouraged many to paint him as the opposite of family friendly. With that, it hit me. This question of iconoclast being owned and controlled by the thing they have dedicated their life to destroy.

This question gnawed at me until I had to put pen-to-paper. Enlisting the help of the brilliant Henry Miller, STEPPERS is a graphic novel exploring civic action in the modern world.
