Green Lantern Corps #18 (The Sinestro Corps. War pt. 10) (DC – Tomasi / Igle / Gleason / Rollins / Ordway)
Here’s what DC has to say about this issue: Part 10 of the “Sinestro Corps War” storyline. In this issue, the Guardians of the Universe have chosen a new Ion, and his first mission is to confront one of the deadliest member of the Sinestro Corps…the newly christened Superman Prime!
Overall I felt that this was the weakest issue in the Sinestro Corps crossover. Yes, the guardians have their new Ion and Superman Prime is the new heavy hitter on the DCU, but I just feel that his issue lacks the “holy crap” moments that we’ve been treated to in the past issues. This is really just a big, and kinda boring, fight between Sodam Yat (Ion) and Superman Prime. Then there is the very confusing info that a Daxamite, Sodam Yat’s species, get many of the same benefits from a yellow sun that a Kyptonian does. Huh??? When did that happen, and why is Earth then not crawling with Daxamites? (See Update on this issue) We do see the origin story of Sodam, but I felt like it was placed poorly. Here we are in the climax of the story and we’re taking time out to get an origin story. It just didn’t seem to fit.
Series Grade: A
Update!: Okay. I thought I could get this update in before I got called on it, but I was too late. Our reader Sam pointed out that Daxamites have been a part of the DCU for some time. AND is seems that their abilities granted from the yellow sun are common knowledge. I seemed to have missed it. I don’t know how I missed it, but I can only guess that it has something to do with me missing the Mon-El storyline in Superman. I was schooled on this topic by Neal at Kowabunga Comics yesterday and just didn’t have he time to update anything.
My foray into DC’s intergalactic heroes started with the Sinestro Corps #1 one-shot. I guess I still have alot to learn about the various species in the DCU.
