Greatest American Hero shows it has potential… but that’s about it

The Greatest American Hero #3 (of 3) (Catastrophic Comics / Arcana Studios – Katt / Hilinski / Folino / O’ Reilly)

I don’t really know what to say here. Issue #1 was a delight to read, the writing seemed fresh, the art was good… it really felt like the creative team was behind the project. Issue #2, the quality overall on the book plummeted. It was the definition of a call-in. And now issue #3, hmmmmm… definitely a step up from the last issue (at least in the writing). We are back to a plot dealing with a secret nemesis and a shadow government organization, so sounding good… but the cheesiness factor goes through the roof when Ralph and Bill have to save President Obama from a racist cult. Not just cheesy, but a straight out, lame “jump the shark” moment. And the art is just horrendous.

I think this property could work, everyone loves the GAH, Catastrophic just need to find a creative team that can be consistently solid.

grade: C- at best
