Patsy Walker: Hellcat #3

Patsy Walker: Hellcat #3 (Marvel – Immonen / Garcia / Rauch)

Patsy Walker is in WAY over her head. As the sole member of the Initiative supporting Alaska, you’d think she’d have an easy time. You’d be wrong. She’s on a mission to find the heir to the magical shamanic realm of Attakpanik, but she’s closer to sinking the whole continental shelf and taking Tony Stark and S.H.I.E.L.D. down with her.

Can’t say why I like this book. It’s like that obnoxious kid with potential ya can’t help pulling for. They story is a shambles, which could be the result of this being Kathryn Immomen’s first writing attempt (Except check out the Immomen’s “Never as Bad as You Think” their webcomic collected in a print edition in Nov. or Dec.), I’m hoping maybe she’s pulling a Grant Morrison and will get it all rolled together into one good final.

That said Hellcat’s character is very likeable, she’s got one of the coolest costumes ever, her boobs aren’t too big, and the art has been quality across the board. It has a very mangaesque feel, the whimsical aspects. However, the of the silliness is just a bit off. Immomen just isn’t quite adept at making it flow and seem natural. Yet. I expect she will get there over time. A bit of fresh air.
