Booster Gold #9 (DC – Johns / Katz)
“Blue and Gold” continues as the Justice League International returns! In a desperate attempt to correct time, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are forced to rebuild the team that defined them so long ago! But can what’s left of the JLI stop Max Lord and save the world from his O.M.A.C.s?
We are finally out of the set-up phase of the “Blue and Gold” story arc. And the crowd goes wild… too bad it took so long so, it seems the last few issues, while offering great 90’s easter eggs, have just been biding their time and holding off the main event. Although, it has been a pretty enjoyable read, watching Booster “put the band back together” per se. At the end of the issue just as the second coming of the JLI get to bask in their own glory with the downfall of Max Lord… enter the Time Stealers, the architects of all of Booster’s issues.
While I am very interested in getting the full blown roster list and background of the Time Stealers, I do hope that Mr. Johns has a new trick up his sleeve for the next arc. Quantum Leap only ran four seasons and Voyagers only 20 episodes, if we want Booster around something has got to give besides the whole”fixin’ time in style” bit. One very real possibility is that with the conclusion of Final Crisis, Booster Gold very well could be mainstreamed back into the main DCU, but with someone like Geoff Johns at the helm…we know the next chapter has the possibility of blowing us away out of nowhere.
