Booster Gold #8 (DC – Johns / Katz / Jurgens / Rapmund)
“Blue and Gold” part 3! Booster and Beetle come face-to-face with the all-new, all-different Freedom Fighters as time continues to crash down around them. Can a makeshift super-team really stop Maxwell Lord and his O.M.A.C.s? Plus, the continuing evil machinations of Supernova and Black Beetle!
I had mentioned earlier how I had been enjoying this series, because every issue was fresh… keeping me on the edge of my seat. The “Blue and Gold” storyline is kind of pushing the ticket now. Our heroes are trapped in a messed up future because Ted Kord got saved… this is all funneling toward us having to say good-bye to Beetle, because his death will cause the future to be right again, and Max’s OMAC-ian future to become no more. If it doesn’t end that way and we are being ticked by some wonderful literary devices, I will be ecstatic and personally seek out Dan Didio this summer at Wizard World Chicago and tell him what a monster book this is! I will be the first one to hope I am wrong here, but I don’t think I am.
While this issue was predictable, it was still fun… my hat is off to Geoff Johns and Jeff Katz for bringing us some nostalgia with Anthro, Wild Dog and what looks like an issue surrounding Justice League International.
