TEEN TITANS: YEAR ONE #1 (OF 6) (DC – Wolfram / Kerschl / Lapointe) – DC’s write-up says, “Writer Amy Wolfram (Teen Titans animated series) joins rising star artist Karl Kerschl (ALL-FLASH #1, ROBIN) for a colorful reimagining of how the Teen Titans came together! See how these teammates bonded, and overcame the sheer awkwardness of being teenagers in this explosive 6-issue miniseries that guest-stars the Justice League of America! You may think you know Robin, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash and Aqualad…but you don’t really know the original Teen Titans! ” I have never been a big fan of the original Teen Titans in their first incarnation. I certainly love where this team, and its members, have evolved to. I am very much looking forward to the new Titans reunion adventure coming soon, but the original Teen Titans never did it for me. I picked up Teen Titans: Year One on the recommendation of Neil from Kowabunga Comics and I am so happy I listened to him. Amy Wolfram is taking a step up from the Teen Titans animated series and writing with a new kind of edge that you just won’t see on Saturday morning cartoons or after school Cartoon Network. The art by manga-ish art by Kerschl & Lapointe is a great fit to Wolfram’s style and just plain looks great. Together this team has created a world that I am completely sucked into and want more of. There is a mystery building involving Batman that has me speculating in my free time and itching to search the internet for spoilers. I’m not going to because if the first issue is any sign, this could be the hot new mini-series of 2008.
