Mythos: Fantastic Four

Mythos: Fantastic Four (Marvel – Jenkins / Rivera) – Okay, okay, I know it’s been a while since this book came out, but given it was a one-shot retelling of the origin story, I thought it would be fine to wait to read this one. Unfortunately, it turns out I was right, in fact I could have waited a tad longer. Paul Jenkins is an incredible writer who has let all of geekdom know that he can tell a story with the best of them, but the plot of this Mythos is unexciting, uninspired and simply given. What we have here is a re-write of the FF origin, given more specific details of what happened in the day immediately after their transformation. Now, this one shot is miles ahead of last year’s flop FF “First Family” limited series, but it is still just trite. We see the same thing we always have perhaps with some inspiration from scenes from the Fantastic Four movie. As an FF fan, I was hoping for more. Paolo Rivera’s painted art is excellent. But good art is not enough to save this yawnfest. With a $3.99 price tag, this is only for the hardcore fan.
