The Unknown: The Devil Made Flesh #1

The Unknown: The Devil made Flesh #1 (of 4) (Boom! – Waid / Oosterveer)

Back by popular demand, Mark Waid brings another installment of the world’s greatest detective! With only six months to live, Catherine Allingham’s condition is terminal. But nothing will stop her from trying to solve even more mysteries. It’s international suspense and hair-raising macabre as time runs out for our detective. Interior art by superstar Minck Oosterveer.

Is Catherine’s condition terminal?  What’s up with her new assistant Adriana? What happened to Doyle? What happened in Mountain Oak?  Why can’t Catherine remember Doyle?

These are some of the questions that Waid’s new series brings up.

We open up with Catherine and her new assistant solving a case of ghosts in a famous Italian park.  Doyle shows up and Catherine has no idea who he is.  From there we get some details into the last year and the last case they worked on together… good stuff!  This second series starts off way stronger than the first, and the first had me sold… well, at least until the end.  Here’s to hoping that The Devil Made Flesh has a little bit more of a solid final act than the first series.  Mark Waid is at his finest when laying down a “fringe”-like mystery and delivers a sock-to-the-jaw ending that you don’t see coming.  Independent uber-star Minck Oosterveer returns with his beautiful yet unique interiors.
