Secret Invasion #3

Secret Invasion #3 (Marvel – Bendis / Yu / Morales / Martin)

THE BLOCKBUSTER EVENT continues. Its Avenger versus Avenger. Hero versus hero! Norman Osborn versus Captain Marvel?? The Initiative versus an army of Super-Skrulls? Is Tony Stark really a- -? And who’s that guy with an eye patch coming to save the day?? And, oh man, who did he bring with him?

Not unlike WWH or Civil War that came before it, Secret Invasion is starting off strong and fast! The first part of the book is a huge battle scene that is taking out Manhattan. Even with the Initiative’s help, the Young Avengers and the other heroes gathered are no match for the
battle skrulls that have started the invasion. We see versions of Skrull X and the Super-Skrull, but various other mutant skrulls are present too… we see avengers powers, one skrull seems to be mimicking armor-based powers. It’s actually very cool!

Very solid – Issue Grade: A

We get a cut scene from the battle ensuing to Tony in the middle of the Savage Land where he is trying to fix his armor. Spider-Woman lays waste to Echo just before getting to Tony and telling him what a good job he’s done… huh?… yea that’s right, she lays it on him that he is a skrull who doesn’t know he is a skrull, and that the Civil War was just to divide Earth’s heroes… so either that’s true, and Marvel is pulling another Brand New Day, or she is feeding Tony a line trying to distract him. Flash back to Manhattan, the skrulls look like they have laid waste to everyone and everything… that is until Nick Fury shows up! With his new Howling Commandos?!? 🙂 Madame Masque? Franklin Richards? (wait, isn’t he trapped in the negative zone?) Is that Dr. Strange? Danny Ketch? The visual is a very cool scene, but I guess we can’t nail down who it will be until until another issue comes alone. Good stuff for a big event book!
