The Lone Ranger & Tonto

The Lone Ranger & Tonto #1 (Dynamite / Matthews / Abrams / Guevara)

The first Lone Ranger one-shot special from Dynamite and writer Brett Matthews – joined here by co-writer Jon Abrams! All under a Cassaday cover AND featuring artist Mario Guevara!  In this special Lone Ranger and Tonto adventure, something dark and murderous is moving through the frontier, and it’s up to The Lone Ranger and Tonto to put a stop to it. But once they find it, will they be able to face it?
This 32 page one-shot is a great jumping on point for new fans/readers as well as an excellent companion issue to Dynamite’s Eisner-Award Nominated Series!”

The wild, wild west is back, well it’s been back for about a year. Dynamite’s The Lone Ranger book has been going strong for about eleven issues now and the buzz has been very positive. In fact, I hope to get those issues, or a trade, and review that in our “New To Us” section very soon.

Everyone knows the story of the Lone Ranger and Tonto. Two defenders of truth and justice in a land that sees these virtues as annoyances. Brett Matthews and Jon Abrams craft a single issue story that deals with a topic not often broached in westerns, mental illness. The thing that is “dark and murderous” is also something that is disturbing and sad. This first issue tugs at the modern man’s heart strings as well as providing some western gun-slinging.

With covers by John Cassaday and brilliant writing and interior art, this title should be on the top of your list.

Grade: A+

This big of western justice comes on the wagon train of Kowabunga Comics!
