Proof #2 (Image – Grecian / Rossmo / Jenkins) – So as I was checking the racks at my local comic store and I come across issues #1 and 2 of “If you Believe in Monsters, you need… Proof”. Never heard of it, didn’t know what it was about. Thankfully, Riley Rossmo’s covers jumped out at me. It has been a long time since I have wanted a third issue so much on basically what was to me an unknown commodity. The premise of the book in a nutshell is there is a secret government organization that works as protection and ambassadorship towards the “more endangered species on earth than are dreamt of in Greenpeace’s Philosophy”… namely the mythical creatures of the modern world. Ginger, an above average government agent with an open mind is relocated into this organization and has Proof (a Bigfoot) as a partner. Alexander Grecian and Riley Rossmo’s storytelling abilities and the tools they used in this book is the huge seller. Between a staggered narrative, newspaper clipping and cryptoids (reminiscent of VH1’s pop-up video) the tale is wonderfully woven and is a great amalgamation of a good action story and a technical CSI report. It is a perfect combination of drama, action and comedy. The book is made complete by sketchy-lined art done right and the best use of subdued color that I have seen in a long time. If you are betting on the best book that you probably haven’t read yet… then you want Proof!
