Star Wars: Legacy #17 (Dark Horse – Ostrander / Duuresema / Duuresema)
– Since this is the first Legacy provided to our readers, I’m going to give you what’s written on the inside cover of each Legacy cover. “As this era begins, Luke Skywalker has unified the Jedi order into a cohesive group of powerful Jedi Knights. It is a time of relative peace, yet darkness approaches on the horizon. Skywalker’s descendants face new and resurgent threats to the galaxy, and to the balance of the Force. The events mentioned in this story take place approximately 137 years after the battle of Yavin” Now that’s out of the way, let’s get into it!
Cade Skywalker, decedent of the great Luke Skywalker, has abandoned the Jedi ways to forge his own path away from the Force. Unfortunately for Cade, the Force doesn’t care what he wants and twists the universe to make yet another Skywalker a major player in the universe. Cade will be a deciding force in the Star Wars universe, whether he wants to or not.
This is the first issue of Legacy I’ve read (I hope to go back and read the 16 previous issues, thank God for trades) and I’m coming in at the 4th episode of the current story arc. Dark Horse writes “In the heart of the Sith Temple on Coruscant, an unexpected acolyte he trains in the ways of the Sith. Captured by Darth Krayt, Cade Skywalker has made an unholy bargain with the usurper Emperor. Is Cade following in the footsteps of Vader?” I can honestly say I don’t know, but I want to find out.
The writing and the art are both very solid. The team of Ostrander and Duuresema seem to be having a good time with the material in the, “How cool can we make this?” way. There’s dialogue that is great and art that makes you wish you had a real lightsaber. I can’t wait to dig into this book.
