Annihilation Conquest: Wraith #4

ANNIHILATION: CONQUEST – WRAITH #4 (Marvel – Grillo-Marxuach / Holtz) -Another end to a Marvel crossover. Wraith #4 concludes what is essentially an intro story for a character. Marvel sums #4 up as, “ Wraith and Ronan — the collision course ends here! Okay, Annihilation fans, if an appearance of the Accuser isn’t enough for you, how about the Super-Skrull? What, you thought the Avengers cornered the market on the Skrulls? Also, which ANNIHILATION character is pulling the strings of Marvel’s gothic gunslinger? Find out in this creepy conclusion that takes you right into ANNIHILATION: CONQUEST #1!

Gothic gunslinger, eh? More like emo-punk vengeance monger. Wraith is a book that just hasn’t grabbed me like I hoped it would. I wanted a space western, but didn’t really get it. There are western elements, but I don’t think they went for the western feel as whole-hog as I wanted them to. Wraith is a decent origin story. Unfortunately, at this time, I think it’s for a character that is headed into obscurity.

As with Quasar, I feel that Grillo-Marxuach and Holtz did the best they could given the direction from the House if Ideas. I’m hoping that when Annihilation Conquest comes out on Wednesday, we’ll see just how all these minis tie together.
