On February 5th, the world will get it’s first live action peek at the JSA via, the most likely last season, of Smallville. I saw a pic of Hawkman last week and was very unimpressed. These pics do not change my opinion.
To me, it looks like Hawkman’s wings are something I can buy at any Halloween shop. They should be huge and majestic, not puny and chicken like. And as much as I like Stargate‘s Michael Shanks, he’s just not big enough to play Hawkman. The winged warrior should be a man mountain of muscle and testosterone, not an angry carpenter. Hawkman should be Conan with wings. I think Shanks should have been the Alan Scott Green Lantern, he looks the part.
Here’s Stargirl and Dr. Fate.
Stargirl looks like a cosplayer from a small crappy comic book convention. The actress looks the part and the costume looks just like it does in the comics, I just don’t think it translates well into live action. Smallville has taken liberity for years when it comes to super hero costumes, none of the JLA look like their comic counterparts, so I’m not sure why they didn’t do the same with Stargirl. Plus, the star-staff looks like something out of a cheesy sci-fi movie. or an adult film, or a cheesy sci-fi adult film.
Dr. Fate, okay he looks cool! I’ve always liked the look of Dr. Fate and his costume looks like it leaped out of a classic issue of JSA. This must be where the budget went for this episode, this and paying Tom Wellings huge salary.
Maybe the out there costumes of the JLA will inspire Clark to dump the lame “Red/Blue Blur” and take on his true mantel of Superman.
