Pullbox Previews: Mad Cave Goes Hammett-Style on Nottingham!

In Nottingham, Hazan, Volk, Romano and Gil take a decidedly DARK (like, a matte black painted room, 500 feet below the earth in the middle of the night during a solar eclipse, with the lights off dark) spin on the Robin Hood mythology, setting the Merry Men as a gang of murderous anarchists, Sheriff Everard Blackthorne as a menacingly effective investigator/interrogator, Maid Marian as a conniving manipulator and Sir Robin himself as, well, one seriously scary dude. Pullbox Reviews: Amelia Sky Has to Save the World…After She Finds Her Parents!

Amelia Sky’s world has been flipped upside-down and sideways. Waking a month after having been separated from her parents during an apparent alien invasion, one which saw the majority of humanity either slain or sent to an off-world sanctuary (and during which her own father sought to kill her to avoid her capture by a mysterious and as-yet unidentified “they”), she finds herself alone in a world now dominated by shriekers, a horrid spider-like alien creature (similar to the invaders in A Quiet Place) which feeds off human life force. Making her way into a ravaged world, she befriends a stray dog, and her adventure through the wasteland to find her parents begins. (10.5/13)

Pullbox Reviews – Firefly: Watch How I Soar Offers Glimpses Into Everyone’s Favorite Space Jockey

All in all, How I Soar is a nice collection of well-written pastiches examining Wash’s life and character development, offering depth and backstory to a character who’d had little in the way of such previously. The tales are lovingly told by creators as appreciative of their source as any fan, and not without their occasional emotional gut punch, and Alan Tudyk’s conflict-avoidant, star-loving pilot’s sardonic wit issues forth loud and clear in every one. (11/13)

Pullbox Reviews: TKO Drops a Supernatural Noir Classic in Lonesome Days, Savage Nights!

With enough shadow and grit that you might need to wash your face and brush your teeth afterward, Lonesome Days, Savage Nights is a Dashiell Hammett meets Universal Monsters pulp noir masterpiece. Salvatore Simeone’s tale, as spun by Simeone and Steve Niles, weaves the classic werewolf mythos into an ebon dark story of pain, regret and revenge that left me with a nasty thirst for more. (13/13)
