Muppet King Arthur – Boom Kids! does it again!

Muppet King Arthur #1 (of 4) (Boom Kids! – Benjamin / Storck / Alvarez)

Many have sought the Holy Grail, and many have failed. Now the Muppets present some very good reasons why, as they recount the fantastic quest of King Arthur and his Muppets of the Round Table! This classic tale of adventure, romance, and magic is told once again, but this time with more frogs, chickens, bears, and Whatnots than you can shake Excalibur at! In the words of Fozzie, it will be a ‘knight’ to remember!

While not being blown away by the recent wave of Boom Kids! Disney books, I am still greatly moved (and that it very tough for a large mid-western guy) by their Muppet line.  King Arthur is another brilliant addition to their list!  Paul Benjamin and Patrick Storck flawlessly capture the humorous rhythm and timing that defines a good Muppet story.

The story is filled with details that are entertaining for both fans of Arthurian mythos and Jim Hensen.  These guys did their homework and not a single placement for a gag is missed.  Fans of all generations will enjoy what is given here.  Dave Alvarez brings a different vibe to the art, bringing some of his Looney Tunes background, and giving the Muppets much more of a flowing cartoon feel and less of a “I am trying to emulate what has come before”.  Kudos to him for exploring and exposing new ground for the Muppets!
