G.I. Joe Movie Adaptation #2

G. I. Joe Movie Adaptation #2 (IDW – Tipton / Maloney)

The official adaptation of this summer’s highly anticipated film, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra! G.I. JOE is a highly trained, classified special operations unit composed of men and women from around the globe. Officially, these warriors don’t even exist. Few know the truth—that G.I. JOE fights a secret war, as the first and last line of defense against forces that seek to plunge our world into chaos. Wherever there’s trouble G.I. JOE is there.

NOW YOU KNOW, AND KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE.

Ok, obviously I haven’t seen the movie yet, even though it is on my list.  For those of you who are new to the game, usually a comic / movie tie-in is sort of a half-baked, shady version of the movie or a sad mini-story just pushed out to fleece the fanboys.  This has been the way things are with the bigger publishers.

Well, IDW has been breaking that mold with various titles like Star Trek: Countdown, the G.I. Joe Movie Prequel and now the G.I. Joe Movie Adaptation.

While I don’t know if the little details like the historical look at Destro’s family line makes it into the movie, this adaptation actually makes me want to see the movie more!  The art and writing does a fantastic job of capturing the bottle-neck type pressure and action.  Paramount made a wise choice letting IDW handle the comic end of things – IDW is not letting them down!  The writing here is solid enough that this series could have been passed off as a G. I. Joe series rather than just a movie tie-in!  Joe fans, this is one that is worth your time and money!
