Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four #1

Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four #1 (of 3) (Marvel – Aguirre-Sacasa / Kitson)

The invasion has started, and no one in the MU is safe, not even the First Family of Comicdom! Aware that some of the Earth’s most advanced technology and weaponry is housed in the Baxter Building, the Skrulls have neutralized the building–by transporting it and its inhabitants straight to the Negative Zone! With one member of the Fantastic Four M.I.A. and another “replaced,” it’s up to the remaining family members–not to mention Franklin and Val—to get back to our dimension, Skrulls or no Skrulls. But are any of our heroes who they think they are?

This quite possibly the best “big-event-tie-in” book I have read since Civil War: The Confession.  While this limited series is not essential for some one trying to follow the Secret Invasion, it is a necessity for any Fantastic Four fan.  The writing stays true to the family dynamics as we watch Sue get taken down while Ben, Johnny and the kids are trapped in the Negative Zone.  Not to mention the last page reveal that those long time FF fans knew would come with a skrull invasion… in fact she infiltrated the Fantastic Four in the late 80’s and early 90’s.  And the big question is “Where is Reed?” This book was much better than my expectations for it!
