The Legion of Super-Heroes #37

The Legion of Super-Heroes #37 (DC – Shooter / Manapul / Livesay) Celebrate a bold new era for the Legion of Super-Heroes with the return of writer Jim Shooter and the debut of new series art team Francis Manapul (Witchblade, Tomb Raider) & John Livesay (THE FLASH)! Several Legionnaires find themselves in mortal peril as the universe is faced with a frightening and mysterious alien threat. Plus, in the absence of longtime team captain Cosmic Boy, the Legion seek new leadership, only to find themselves under the the shaky and uncertain control of…Lightning Lad? Okay, it’s been a while (probably the Mark Waid run) since I have read a Legion book by itself. Yes, I have seen them do their guest shot in the new The Brave and the Bold series and Karate Kid and Triplicate Girl have done their part in Countdown, but I have not been following the Legion book at all. With a high recommendation from a local comic book shop owner and my faith Jim Shooter’s work I jumped in encouraged. My excitement was substantiated. This issue is part 1 of Evil Adventus story arc is the perfect jumping in point. Shooter does an amazing job of exploring characters, explaining background and setting up what looks like to be a phenomenal story. The interior was crisp and a good balance of landscape and character details. If you are looking for another book to jump on, jump into the 31st century!
