Marvel Zombies 2 #1 (Marvel – Kirkman / Phillips / Chung) – marvels’ summary – “Are you ready for Marvel Zombies Civil War? Forty years have passed and the zombies have come back home after eating just about everything else in the universe. Yum yum! What awaits them back on Earth, though, is beyond anything even these shambling monstrosities could have conceived!” Okay I have to admit, while there isn’t too much plot here, it was actually more than I expected. The now Interstellar Cosmic-powered zombie squad has eaten much of the known universe and now wants to figure out how to get to other dimensions… so back to their home, Earth. On the way back , they stop off to eat Ego, the Living Planet (nope, not making it up). Meanwhile back on Earth, the remnant of humanity is trying to figure out if there is enough people (i.e. genetic material) left to continue the human race and what to do about the aging leadership of Black Panther. Most of the youth think he is too old to lead into the future…. hmmmm, I wonder what he could do to live longer? Hmmmmm. As the two story lines get ready to collide, there is a new epiphany in the zombie disease that could lead to what has been hinted as “Zombie Civil War”.
Like I said, not too much here, except for Marvel’s ability to self-mock. But I was pleasantly surprised by some of the details of the story, but that might be because I came in with such low expectations. That being said, if someone is going to write a good zombie story with some meat on it (ha, I made a funny), it will be Robert Kirkman. Mr. Kirkman is one of the most overlooked modern day masters of the macabre tale.
